Job Description

As an Almond Pruner, your primary responsibility will be the meticulous pruning of almond trees to enhance their health and productivity. This includes performing thinning cuts to remove limbs at their origin and heading cuts to trim portions of existing branches. The role demands precision and adherence to best practices to ensure optimal tree structure and nut production.

What the job requires

• • Thinning Cuts: Remove limbs by severing them at the point of origin from the parent limb to open and thin out tree canopies and control the height of the tree.
  • Heading Cuts: Remove a portion of an existing limb to stimulate bud growth and manage tree shape.
  • Precision and Meticulousness: Ensure all tasks are completed accurately, maintaining high standards of orchard maintenance.
  • Decision-Making: Collaborate with supervisors to set daily tasks and goals, contributing to effective orchard management.

 

• Experience: Previous experience in pruning or orchard work is preferred but not essential; training can be provided.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
• Transportation: Reliable personal transport to commute to different orchard locations.
• Attention to Detail: Strong focus on precision and quality in task execution.

Work Hours

• Position Type: Casual employment.
• Daily Hours: Typically more than eight hours per day during peak pruning times.
• Weekly Schedule: Generally six days per week, with flexibility required to meet operational demands.
